shadows | week 51

Today’s wonderful blog post comes from my amazing father, Larry.  Dad, thank you for always supporting and believing in me no matter what.  And thank you for agreeing to appear in my blog.  You are an amazing writer and I’m so happy that you are my dad.

Ike casts an imposing image – like a wolf-shaped hole in his surroundings.  In fact, Ike is one of those rare bodies whose appearance is always darker than the shadow he casts, and the effect can be a bit unsettling.

Maybe that aspect is true of our dreams as well, especially those associated with the yearning to realize our full potential.  Rarely is the object of our fear as dark and foreboding as the shadow it casts on the landscape of our mind: the broken relationship we long to mend; the new career to explore; the bad habit to break; the scary new person our potential draws us to.  When confronted, the real thing is almost never as bad as we expected.

There is a chance, of course, that one of those latent talents will appear Ike-like!  Here’s our hope that – however fearsome the affect – you find that your newly-discovered terror is actually engaging, loyal, inquisitive, and more than a little afraid of thunderstorms.
